Herne Bay re-visited Champion Hill Stadium, to play Dulwich Hamlet for the 2nd time in the space of 3 days. This time the Ryman League Cup 3rd round. But it was a completely different story as Herne Bay stumbled to their third defeat in four games with this League Cup exit against a very good Hamlet side at Champion Hill.
For the second time in four days Dulwich started the brighter of the two sides but unlike in the league encounter Hamlet took advantage of their early supremacy. Daniel Carr fired the home team ahead on 8 minutes when he ghosted in at the far post. It was to be his first of four for the evening.
Byron Walker might have equalised on 20 minutes for the Bay but his glancing header flew wide. Almost immediately Dulwich extended their lead when play switched to the Bay penalty area and Daniel Carr thumped the ball past Juan Figuera deputising for Dan Eason between the sticks.
Simon Halsey made a double substitution at half time replacing Walker and Lawson with the Turner twins. Michael Turner made an immediate impact. It was his mazey left wing run two minutes after the break that provided the cross for Billy Bennett to score his debut goal for the Bay via Tunji's deft touch. It was to be Herne Bay's last chance to pull the match out of the fire. Dulwich stepped up a gear with Daniel Carr claiming goals 3 and 4 in the 60th and 63rd minute.
Game over as a contest. Not quite. Ellis Green completed the rout with a stoppage time fifth to leave Bay to concentrate on the league (and maybe Kent Senior Cup.)
