Reginal final

On Saturday last Herne Bay FC's walking football team travelled to Worthing to take on Brighton WFC in the 6-a-side Regional Final of the WFA Over 50's National Cup. The teams had met previously in the FA Peoples Cup when Brighjton had taken the honours so a tough match was expected.

Brighton opened up the stronger and took the lead after 2 minutes. Herne Bay fought back and shortly after they were on level terms when David Gilham scored. Herne Bay continued to press and went close on a couple of occasions. However it was Brighton who got their noses in front again when they scored in the 12th minute. On 15 minuted Danny Kimber pulled a hamstring and had to be replaced by Harry Roberts. Again Herne Bay struck back and within a minute David Gilham had scored his second to make it 2 - 2. Just before half time David Gilham incurred 2 minutes in the sin bin for an offence.

Herne Bay started the second half on the front foot. Play was now becoming end to end and within a short while Brighton had taken the lead. Again this was short lived as good work from Neil Brown saw him score to make it 3 - 3. The final whistle came with the scores still level. 5 minutes extra time ensued and it was Brighton who broke the deadlock with a fourth goal. Despite pressing Herne Bay could not obtain another equaliser so the match finished 4 - 3 to Brighton who now go on the National Finals.

Team: Chris Smith, Phil Sainsbury, Allan Baillie, Neil Brown, Danny Kimber, David Gilham, Nick Denly, Harry Roberts.
