So far

Herne Bay have scored 66 league and cup goals so far this season.

Mike Salako 22, Kane Rowland 10, Gil Carvalho 9, Theo Osinfolarin 6 (2p), Harrison Pont 5, Vance Bola 2, Archie Burnett 2, Sam German 2, Frankie Smith 2, Dan Carrington 1, Bola Dawodu 1, Tom Hanfrey 1, Scott Heard 1, Mo Kamara 1 and Danny Walder 1.

35 of those goals have been scored at Winch’s Field, 18 at the Canterbury Road end, and 17 at the Stanley Gardens end; 15 in the first half and 20 in the second half.

Since joining the Isthmian League in 2012/13 the most goals scored by a single player was in 2019/20 when Zak Ansah scored 28 league and cup goals, but 11 of those were penalties. The most from open play was 23 from Jake Embery in 2017/18 when he also netted 2 penalties. Mike Salako, with 22 goals, has eight more games to beat both of those totals. And talking of penalties, the top scorer from the spot across those 11 (nearly 12) seasons is Danny Walder with 24 between 2013/14 and 2016/17.

And in case you wondered, our Assistant Manager Mark Lovell scored 35 goals in his time playing for Herne Bay, which is one more than his colleague from that time and current midfielder Danny Walder.

Eight of this season’s squad have scored against Herne Bay when playing for other clubs previously: Scott Heard 5 (Whitstable Town 4, Folkestone Invicta 1), Vance Bola 3 (Ashford United 1, Margate 1, Whyteleafe 1), Bola Dawodu 2 (Bowers & Pitsea 1, Sittingbourne 1), Kane Rowland 2 (Sittingbourne 1, Whitstable Town 1), Gil Carvalho 1 (Phoenix Sports 1), Liam Friend 1 (Margate 1), Mo Kamara 1 (Ashford United 1) and Danny Walder 1 (Whitstable Town 1).

Many thanks to Ken Dixon for the images of all the 66 goals from this season…so far.
