Thoughts on last nights match with Peter Guise

After last night’s pre season match with Folkestone Invicta, Joint manager Jermaine Darlington spoke to Radio Cabin 94.6 FM’s Peter Guise:

Peter Guise: How encouraged were you by the performance?

Jermaine Darlington: First half, weren’t too impressed, but the second half was a lot better but it’s only the first game, we need to get fitter, we need more games and I think the boys will get it together and from what we saw today we’re really confident that we can do well in this league.

Peter Guise: Folkestone are a division above you must have been expecting a tough game

Jermaine Darlington: That’s what we want, we want to play teams in a higher league, it gives us a gauge of where we need to work harder. We were expecting them to put out a strong team, we made the players aware of that but we wanted to focus on what we were doing. There were positives in the first half but the second half was definitely more positive.

Peter Guise: The moves for the goals were special

Jermaine Darlington: We’re used to seeing that, I’m glad the fans saw a bit of that. We’re about good passing and movement and putting good strings of passes together and getting a goal at the end of it.

Peter Guise: The supporters going out of the ground were saying they liked what they saw.

Jermaine Darlington: I’m very pleased about that. Although I’ve been in football a long time this is my first management job and I was a little bit nervous. Once the whistle went I was alright. If I’d been playing I would have had no nerves but this is my first managerial experience and that’s how I played as a player, try to be entertaining and that’s how I want my team to play so I’m glad the fans enjoyed it.
